20 September 2011

Brussels, 20 September 2011 – Deloitte today announced the fifty nominees from the Benelux for the Deloitte Technology Fast50, as well as the names of the candidates for the Rising Star Award. The final rankings will be revealed on Thursday 13th October at the Fast50 gala in Rotterdam, when guests will be told which company from the Benelux technology sector has grown the fastest. This year, 6 Belgian companies have been shortlisted as nominees for the Deloitte Technology Fast50: Netlog (Massive Media -Ghent), BTR Services (Boom and Brussels), d2 (Digital Darwin - Wetteren), GeoDynamics (Kortrijk), VOXBONE (Brussels) and CORETEC Engineering (Angleur). Also this year, the Belgian companies Gatewing (Ghent), Luma International (Antwerp) and SonicAngel (Herselt) are in the running for the Rising Star Award, the title that goes to the most promising young start-up company. The winner of this award will be announced on 6th October.

The Deloitte Technology Fast50 is an annual ranking that lists the fastest-growing technology companies in the Benelux. The list is compiled based on growth in turnover over the previous five years. The condition of entry is that companies must be using technology that they have developed themselves. Entrants for the Deloitte Technology Fast 50 can come from both the public and private sector and cover all segments of technology, including software development, Internet services, life sciences and media technology.

This year, Internet companies again dominate the list, followed by software companies. Belgian businesses have been eligible to enter for this much-coveted award since 2009, when Netlog walked away with the top prize. In 2010, Netlog didn't participate, but this year the Ghent-based operation is again among the nominees, together with 5 other technology companies from Brussels, Wetteren, Angleur, Kortrijk and Boom.

Rising Star Award

The Rising Star Award, which has become the forerunner to the Fast50, was created for businesses that have been operating for fewer than five years. An independent jury assesses all of the entries in the Rising Star category and nominates 12 companies for the Rising Star Award. The candidates are then judged both on their turnover potential and whether they might be seen as Fast50 winners in the future. After a presentation from all of the nominees, the winner of the Rising Star Award 2011 will be announced on 6th October. This year, 3 Belgian companies are in the running for the award: Gatewing (Ghent), Luma International (Antwerp) and SonicAngel (Herselt).

The theme for Deloitte Technology Fast50 2011 is: 'Open up tomorrow's world', a slogan that refers to the innovative, forward-looking and open nature of the technology sector. Luc Van Coppenolle, TMT Practice leader and partner at Deloitte Belgium explains: "The Fast50 key is a symbol for the open Fast50 network, which brings the technology community together to share knowledge and generate inspiration. It is a network of great value. These awards enable us to see that there is still a wealth of fast growing companies in the Benelux that are of great importance for a resilient economy. But we should also not lose sight of the nominees for the year's Rising Star award – these companies are the ones that will lead the way to the future of our technology sector, which continues to flourish".
